VirtualBox improvements via VBoxManage

Just a short post to add a couple of tips I’ve picked up over the last couple of months when running VM’s using Oracles VirtualBox software using the VBoxManage tool.

This will assume your using a Debian based Distro, though it’s quite possible it will also work for other Linux flavors.  From the terminal type the following;

VBoxManage setextradata MacOSX “CustomVideoMode1” “1920x1080x32”

This will allow you to achieve the full resolution of your 1920×1080 resolution screen, instead of being stuck with the current VirtualBox limitation of 1024×768.  Replace MacOSX with the name of your VM obviously.

To double your VRam, from the terminal type the following;

VBoxManage modifyvm MacOSX –vram 256

Again, obviously replace MacOSX with the name of your VM!

Enjoy the added performance!

Love Linux, the community it has inspired, and most importantly, I can run my computer free, better than yours, even with all that money spent to "buy" your OS. Oh yeah, I think I'm funny, (though I know looks aren't everything) and you'll laugh if you read my site posts!
