VirtualBox improvements via VBoxManage

Just a short post to add a couple of tips I’ve picked up over the last couple of months when running VM’s using Oracles VirtualBox software using the VBoxManage tool.

This will assume your using a Debian based Distro, though it’s quite possible it will also work for other Linux flavors.  From the terminal type the following;

VBoxManage setextradata MacOSX “CustomVideoMode1” “1920x1080x32”

This will allow you to achieve the full resolution of your 1920×1080 resolution screen, instead of being stuck with the current VirtualBox limitation of 1024×768.  Replace MacOSX with the name of your VM obviously.

To double your VRam, from the terminal type the following;

VBoxManage modifyvm MacOSX –vram 256

Again, obviously replace MacOSX with the name of your VM!

Enjoy the added performance!

My children and wife are my life! Worked in the computer industry as a network engineer, living between Maine and Indiana for the past 20 years or so. Love to write. Love Linux, the community it has inspired, and most importantly, I can run my computer free, better than yours, even with all that money spent to "buy" your OS. Oh yeah, I think I'm funny, (though I know looks aren't everything) and you'll laugh if you read my site posts!
