My children and wife are my life!

Worked in the computer industry as a network engineer, living between Maine and Indiana for the past 20 years or so.

Love to write.

Love Linux, the community it has inspired, and most importantly, I can run my computer free, better than yours, even with all that money spent to "buy" your OS.

Oh yeah, I think I'm funny, (though I know looks aren't everything) and you'll laugh if you read my site posts!

Happy New’s Year…

admin 1

Another new year.  Still using VSIDO.  Still hosting nixnut.com!  New challenges coming up this year.  Some health issues.  I’ll post more news about that sometime around the end of January.

Fluxbox, the 'floating' WM.

Hasn’t watching the news this last year been a doozie!  Obviously the title of this post should read “Happy New Year”!  The news, well forget that.  I quit watching all that drivel.  Nonsense…

Meantime, I’ve got the lappy so well tuned and setup I’m loathe to do a rebuild on it.  It’s been forever since I did a fresh install.  Testing for VSIDO, I’m afraid I’ve arrived at a bad habit, relying on testing ISO’s with Virtualbox.  I have read more

VSIDO at three

All grown up and matured.  No drama, no muss, no fuss!  Not really so much to write about, as it is still the goto distro on my laptop.  Three years, and one distro.  Been a lot of fun, and a lot of stability.  I have toyed with some different ‘window managers’ during this period, but in the end always arrive back to the default VSIDO WM, Fluxbox.  Quite an elegant Linux distro!  The community is a lot larger now than it was back then, but still the best Linux forum/community, I’ve ever been a part of.  Some really smart, talented people!  You should probably go download and install it now.  Download VSIDO

I’ll say more when it starts getting colder outside…

The subsequent, subsequent post?

OK, I’ll just come out and type it.  There will not be a ‘subsequent’ Nexus post.  (a) I don’t recall what I was going to write about anyway (b) it would have been boring and probably already written down somewhere else and (c) IT’S SUMMER…

Put down the tablet/phone/laptop and step outside for a minute!  There’s a real world out there… read more

Linux in the woods

Oh yeah, nixnut…

Well, the thing is, it’s summer time here in Maine.  We’re outdoors with no Internet access.  Out in the woods.  Enjoying the last warm days of summer!  Yes on August 5th, 2015 we’re basking in the last warm days of the year.  I’m ready to move south… read more

Subsequent Nexus Flashing Post

admin 0

Yeah I know, it’s been more than a couple of days.  My intention was to provide a comprehensive, step-by-step, instructive ‘How To’ on the simplicity of unlocking, rooting, and flashing a new ROM to your tablet.

Due to everyday issues concerning family and life in general this article will have to wait.  I still have every intention of writing it, if only for my benefit.  Having it posted here means it will be available for me to peruse anytime I have issues with my Nexus 7.

In the meantime, a good place for you to start while waiting on my lazy butt, would be Cyanogenmod for the Nexus 7 WiFi (2012) [Grouper].  That will take you directly to the instruction page for the Cyanogenmod ROM for the specified tablet.  Another good link for perusal is at the XDA Forums, which is the “Chroma” ROM for the Nexus 7 WiFi (2012) tablet.

That should be a good start for anyone who was waiting for me to get to this.  I’m sure there are some people out there that are just apoplectic with rage that I’ve failed to come through on this pledged post.  My apologies, but alas, life comes along…

BTW, apoplexy is a terrible thing!  Be careful how mad you get. read more
